LIFE UPON THE WICKED STAGE...
I've been earning a living in "the industry" since late 1980... which means that this year I'll be moving into my 28th year in the business! No wonder I look and feel like I do! LOL
I'm an actor, a singer and, at times, a "dancer" and my resume and photo appear below. I'm also including a few photos of me on stage... some current, some not.
With the exception of a few possible sepias photographs, I think that this photograph of Kate Hennig, Me, Aggie (Cekuta) Elliot, Allison Grant and Colin Legge from the 1981 Huron Country Playhouse Young Company production of "Stardust" is one of the first photos of my early professional career. Look folks... I had hair!!! That season we also presented "Ten: A Celebration of 10 Years of HCP", a musical for children titled "The Incredible Magical Delfodil" and we finished our season as part of the mainstage production of Meredith Willson's "The Music Man"... the first of my five "trips" to River City, Iowa.
In 1982 I went on to the first of two seasons with the Muskoka Festival Touring Company. That season we presented "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" and this production of "the Best of Broadway. Pictured in our "Oklahoma segment costumes are Tama Kossman, Bert Hilkes, Cheryl Cecchetto, Greg Ernst, Marianne Woods and Me!
In our second season (1983) we presented "The Fantasticks", "Flashback Follies of the Roaring Twenties", "The Winkle Pickers" and "Pool's Paradise". This is me playing the Bishop of Lax in Pool's Paradise... I was 23 years old at the time!

This is me playing Bert Barry in the Broadway in Moscow production of 42ND STREET which played from October to December of 2002. This suit and several other costumes were made for me; they fit me beautifully. I wish I could say the same for the shoes; OUCH!
From May 1990 to May 1991 I appeared as Gerald Bolingbroke in the Limelight Dinner Theatre production of ME AND MY GIRL. Also in the cast were Marcia Tratt, Ted Simonett, Patti Jameson, Valerie Boyle, and the late Barbara Hamilton and Jack Northmore. It was one helluva year and I enjoyed it so much that when the opportunity came up to direct it for a community theatre in Barrie in early 2006 I jumped at the chance! It was a hoot!
In August of 2000 I played Nicely-Nicely Johnson in my 6th production of Guys & Dolls. This photo was from the 1000 Islands Playhouse production at the Grand Theatre, Kingston. On the left is Timm Hughes who played Benny Southstreet and James Dallas Smith who played Rusty Charlie. This is a posed shot from the musical number Fugue for Tinhorns.

In the summer of 2001 my friends Blair Bailey and Colleen Greidanus and I performed some Berlin, Gershwin & Porter at a Barrie nightclub called Graydons. It was a real treat to perform that music with those people!
This card was an opening night gift from the publicist of Love & Larceny (2004) at the 1000 Islands Playhouse. I am serving champagne to Kerry Ann Doherty (lounging) and the other actors in the photo are Gord Love, Rob Torr, Diane Stapley and David Tompkins.
And finally, for now, this is a watercolour of me playing Nicely-Nicely for the first time in 1983. The production took place at the Cambridge Motor Hotel (Showplace) and the painting was presented to me by the artist Brad Cormier who also played Benny Southstreet.
=====================================
In 1986 I directed my first professional show and it's been a very interesting journey ever since with a little singing & dancing, a lot of directing and acting, a few stints as a producer and some ongoing writing. I have also staged a few shows, but I don't really consider myself a choreographer as much as a "musical traffic cop with a good sense of rhythm".
As a Director I work both in professional and community theatre and I like to work on a wide variety of shows. Though some of my favourite musicals are by William Finn and/or Stephen Sondheim & James Lapine, I enjoy, and espouse, a lot of Canadian musicals and musical revues; however I haven't had nearly enough opportunity to act in or direct Canadian shows... Who has?!!! (Though I have appeared in Anne of Green Gables, Duddy!, Discovering Elvis and now, Love & Larceny! and I have done workshops of others including Revelation, A Touch of Magic and a musical version of the life of Winston Churchill.) And if any theatre out there would like to hire me to direct a production of "Johnny Belinda" I'd be very happy to do it! Ironically, in 2007 I got the chance to direct two Canadian musicals, both with music by Jim Betts, "Stagefright" and "Little Women". What a treat they both were.
